The 3 October Holiday commemorates the liberation of the city of Leiden in 1574 from the Spanish after the Eighty Years' War with 3 days of festivities that culminate in a parade through the city streets.

In 2022, after a two year absence due to the Pandemic, the 3 October fest returned to Leiden. It was celebrated in a grand fashion, with the parade honoring the historic contribution that Leiden has made to the development of science.
