What do you think of when you hear that the parade is just around the corner?
Parades are moving theater. They rush, excite and leave masses of smiles in their wake. To quote from Stephen Sondheim's A Parade in Town:
"There's a parade in town I see crowds, I hear yells There's a parade in town! I hear drums in the air I see clowns in the square I see marchers marching Tossing hats at the sky Did you hear? Did you see? Is a parade in town?"
The 3 October Holiday commemorates the liberation of the city of Leiden in 1574 from the Spanish after the Eighty Years' War. It’s a time when the city celebrates liberation, in all its many forms and manifestations.
