"While the rest of the species is descended from apes, redheads are descended from cats."
Portraits that are shot using an infrared-equipped camera look very different from those that we are accustomed to seeing. For example, under IR light, people suddenly become redheads. Why is this? Who knows....
Redheads are a special group. According to the internet: "Red hair (or ginger hair) occurs naturally in one to two percent of the human population, appearing with greater frequency (two to six percent) among people of Northern or Northwestern European ancestry and with lesser frequency in other populations." In the IR light spectrum, however, these percentages are reversed, and some 98 percent of the human population suddenly become redheads. Hence, viewed in a certain light,we are all carrot-tops.
This series was shot in Leiden in the spring of 2021. It presents a set of street portraits taken with a Nikon 7000 camera whose sensor was modified for the 7200 infrared light spectrum.
