"What the World Needs Now Is Love" was written and released in 1965 by Hal David andBurt Bacharach. Bacharach declared that this song had the most difficult lyrics Hal David ever wrote, despite being a deceptively simple pop hit.Jackie DeShannon sang the song in the 1965 release which climbed quickly into the top 10 on the USA charts. Dianne Warwick's release in 1967 was another gorgeous chart topper, and the song has been subsequently covered and released by hundreds of vocalists worldwide.
While there are many gorgeous versions of "What the World Needs Now is Love", my personal favorite is Bill Frisell's instrumental version, released on his Valentine Album in 2020.On their version, Bill Frisell, bassist Thomas Morgan, and drummer Rudy Royston appear to be asserting their unbounded musical affection for one another.
I think of "love" as an emotional fuel that somehow propels the world in a positive direction. It comes in many shapes and forms, and means many different things to many different people, but somehow wherever it lands, happiness seems to follow. For this series, I've simply gathered together a number of photos that conveywhat love, in it's different forms and manifestations, means to me.
