Most people focus either on the face or the body when they look at a portrait. Too often the hands are overlooked. But I think of hands as the backup band of the body's jazz orchestra. Sometimes they hang out on the sidelines. Other times they keep the beat. Somehow they manage to move in close harmony. And more often than not, they're improvising, while keeping the rest of the body fully engaged and in tune.
This series presents the hands of assorted family members, friends, and those shot on the street, in concerts and around the world. Most of these were captured as full portraits, with the hands isolated for this series.
