Can the spirit of peace, love, and rock-n-roll live on?
Woodstock on the Water brings flower power back to Leiden during the annual summer music spectacle on the Leidse canals.Started in 2018, and paused for Covid, the music festival takes place over two days in July. During the festival, a dozen boats filled with musicians bring the music of the sixties to the terrace-cafe's and canal boats which overflow with spectators. The first nine photos in this series are from the first Woodstock on the Water which took place in July of 2018. The balance are from the 2022 Woodstock on the Water. While the sixties music retains it's youthful spirit of "peace, love and rock-n-roll", many of the musicians are getting up there. The series finishes with a shot of the Old Observatory of Leiden, which is the oldest extant university observatory.Coincidentally, it happened to be open during the same weekend as Woodstock on the Water, so perhaps the sounds of the sixties were secretly being broadcast deep into the hemisphere.
