People derive pleasure from things that they often know are bad for them. What we consider to be an inappropriate source of pleasure is shaped by our upbringing, religion, experiences and social values.
A forbidden pleasure is an indulgence that is deemed immoral or even illegal. In trying to understand what behavior could be considered sinful, this collection presents several types of forbidden pleasures.
The series starts with the theme of gluttony, which is represented by images of delicious desserts. The second theme is prostitution, with images taken from the Wallen, or the red light district of Amsterdam. The third theme is pornography, portrayed using images drawn from early blue movies. The fourth theme is erotic dreams while the fifth theme covers the link between leisure and indolence. The sixth and final part of this series explores the pleasure that comes from religious rapture.
