Literally everything you can carry can be found at the outdoor summer-markets in the South of France.A day at the market in the South of France is truly a wonderful experience. The sellers lay out their objects as if these are precious objects in galleries for public display. The buyers stroll through the markets, inspecting the goods with great seriousness. Street musicians adorn each corner, and the cafes fill with shoppers having a shot of coffee or, more often than not, a mid-day glass of beer.
This series presents images shot in July and August of 2022 in the markets of various cities in the South of France. Some of these markets, like the Tuesday vegetable market of Bouzigues, are tiny, while others, like the Saturday market of Pezenas, the Sunday market of Meze, and the once-in-a-summertime flea market on the waterside in Bouzigues, stretch on for blocks and blocks. What they all have in common, however, is the "joie de vivre"or the "exuberant enjoyment of life" that is summertime in the South of France.
