"Trouble" is a song written by the English singer-songwriter and musician, Cat Stevens, during a period from 1969 to 1970. It was written when Stevens was diagnosed with a collapsed lung and TB. He spent three months in hospital, transferring afterward to another nine months of bed rest at home. When he was hospitalized, Stevens was told that at the time he was admitted that he had perhaps only a few weeks of life left to live. Some years later, the song "Trouble" was used in the scene of Maude's impending death in the film "Harold and Maude" which is one of my favorite films.
When I hear the song "Trouble", I think of my mother's last few years of life. Cancer was literally eating her alive, but she fought it until the very end. She did her best to remain active and independent, until that was no longer an option. She gave all of us a certain amount of trouble, but only because she loved us and couldn't bear to think that her life might come to an end.And when her time finally came, I was prepared, but was devastated anyway.
