A womanwho my mother knows Came in and took off all her clothes. Said I, not being very old,' By golly gosh, you must be cold!' 'No, no!' she cried. 'Indeed I'm not! I'm feeling devilishly hot!'
How does weather affect your mood?
On a cold winter day in February 2021, I was doing a photo-shoot at the house. Dafne was modelling for the shoot. She suggested that we take some photos in the garden. I thought she must be joking, for it was freezing outside and the ground was covered with snow. She insisted we give it a try, and then I insisted that she wear a pair of insulated boots---which she did with some reluctance--until she cast those off.
As it turned out, the shoot in the snow was good fun, and the contrast between the glowing model, the gleaming snow, the winter foliage and the garden furniture was distinctive and clear-cut. As this series was assembled, I was reminded that temperature is but one way to measure the difference between hot and cold. Probably a more important metric is how hot or cold we are to those we meet for the very first time.
