Backlighting in photography is a way for photographers to create dramatic lighting. It involves positioning the main light source for a photograph behind the primary subject. Backlighting can bring a greater sense of depth and an emotional aesthetic to photographs.
The photographs in this series were shot during a workshop on art-nude photography given by Dan Hecho in the Hague on October 16. Hecho uses backlighting to add depth and dimension to a portrait. Three experienced models, Jill Dewyn, Natalia Florenta, and Shira Nuballet struck a number of dramatic poses which were designed to make the best use of the available natural backlighting. Each posed before a bright window, with strong daylight serving as the backlighting.
